Why should you be a wedding photographer?

Let’s talk about all of the reasons you should consider becoming a wedding photographer. There may be more things that you’d add to the list, and being a wedding photographer isn’t just fun and games.

Here are our top reasons being a wedding photographer:

It’s Special: You’re either a fan of weddings or you’re not. We are. We love being a part of the most important day for two people. The emotions that go into a wedding flow throughout the entire day. It’s fun to capture those emotions in the wedding couple and their guests.
Great Money: The wedding industry lives in an inflated bubble. Average weddings in San Francisco were upwards of $40,000 with the average in the States being close to $25,000. Wedding photography is a big and important part of that budget. Starting out, you can be making $1,000 – $2,000 per day of editing (plus editing time). That’s not a bad payday at all! Some photographers we know charge $10,000 to $15,000. Others are averaging $5,000 per wedding and doing about 40 weddings per year. That’s $200,000 for the year – not bad!
Flexible Location: Weddings happen on every corner of the globe. You can market your skills wherever you live, and if you’re really good at it, people will pay you to travel with them to shoot their wedding.
Weddings aren’t going anywhere: While budget cuts might affect your day job, weddings will always happen. It’s up to you to put in the work to make sure you get clients and have consistent work – but if you’re good at what you do, people will find you. Weddings will continue to happen for the foreseeable future, and with the latest Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage, even more weddings will be happening across the country.
It’s Fun: Okay, so if you’ve ever shot a wedding before, you’ll know that it is a lot of work – A LOT OF WORK. You work long hours. You get sweaty and tired. You have to be all dressed up at your job. But at the end of the day, you’re taking photos. You’re interacting with people. You’re making art that someone will truly cherish for the rest of their lives. That sounds fun to me!
