What are Video Intros, Video Bumpers, Video Outros? | Video School Online Explains

Video is huge right now! If you’ve been following the Video School Online blog, you know that. If you are new here – welcome aboard. Video School Online is the place to be to learn and improve your own video making.

Today I want to talk about the video intro. Some people call them video bumpers, other video intros, or you might have heard of a video outro. Basically, we’re talking about the 5-10 second branded clip at the start of a video. Check out any great YouTube channel and you’ll notice that at the start of each video, there is a little opening graphic. These graphics are very important for companies or brands. Here are some of the top reasons why you should have a video intro:

[checklist]

Video intros catch people’s attention and reinforce your brand. Think about it! Every time someone watches one of your videos, they’ll see your logo. They’ll begin to remember that logo, and your brand.
Video intros boost the quality of your videos. Even if most of your videos are just webcam-based, or don’t have fancy graphics, or don’t have fancy shooting or editing, a video intro can impress the audience right off the bat. Of course, it has to be a polished video bumper. You can’t just quickly slap something together. But just having the video bumper introduce all of your videos makes you look like an professional brand.
The average video is abandoned in the first ten seconds. If the opening of your video is slow or confusing, people might click away from your page. But if you have a nice-looking video intro to capture people’s attention, the chance that they stick with your video is greater!

Now you may think you need a lot of experience with motion graphics or special effects to create your own video intro. But you are wrong! I’m putting together a course on how to create your own video intros. I cover all of the basic After Effects skills you need to create the intro in my After Effects course. And in this new course, Create Your Own Video Intro, you learn how to take those skills and put them to use. The course will be launched in early October.

Convinced that you need a video intro? If not, check out my YouTube video below and let me know if you think the video intro improves or decreases the quality of my video:
