Video Editing 101 Course

If you’re interested in learning the basics of video editing, I have a course that is perfect for you. Video Editing 101 was actually my first online course that I ever recorded. At my current full time job, I had to research online education. All of the new online education platforms such as Udemy, Coursera, and EdX kept popping up. I enrolled in classes on each platform to test them out. While Coursera and EdX provided classes similar to those you would take in college, Udemy had a wide range of subjects from video making to beer brewing.

‘How Cool?!’ I thought to myself. I had learned most of my skills through online tutorials and real world experience. I had been video editing for over 10 years since I was a teenager. Why don’t I teach a course on video editing?

So I spent the next month preparing a lesson plan, shooting and editing my courses, and finally publishing Video Editing 101. It was more of an experiment than anything else. I had tried to make money online like most others with an entrepreneurial spirit. I sold thrift store items on Ebay. I took online surveys. I bought and sold stuff on Craigslist. But all of that took a lot of work and time. Time is money people!

After getting around 50 students on my course for free, I started charging for it. Sure enough, the students kept rolling in and after just 6 weeks, I had over 100 students enrolled in my online course! The reviews of my class were great which affirmed me as a teacher.

The class is still growing and gets a few students every month or so. I really hope it continues to grow and at some point in the next year reaches 1000 students!

So what is this course all about:

• I go through all the basics of video editing from the program layout to the final export.
• Each lesson is a screencast/video mashup where you can easily follow along everything I’m talking about.
• Each chapter is broken up into lessons on specific topics. So each lesson is approximately 5-10 minutes long, easy to watch when you have a free moment.
• I teach the course in Final Cut Pro 7, so it would be easiest to follow if you are using that program. But if you are using something else like Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro X, you will still learn a lot. I tried to teach more about the overarching skills than the specifics of doing it in Final Cut Pro 7. That being said, I go into detail for each lesson so you get a good grasp on all topics.
